Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about online counselling.

About sessions

My undivided attention, and a calm space where nothing you say will be judged. I take a relational approach, which means I check in with you as we work together — I’m open to feedback and I want you to feel able to tell me if something isn’t working. I tend to start each session with a simple “Hi, how are you?” and we go from there. I follow your lead.

Sessions are 50 minutes long. I keep a buffer of 10 minutes either side so we never feel rushed at the start or end.

Most clients see me weekly. Fortnightly works well too, especially once we’ve established a rhythm. Monthly is possible but tends to work better as a “maintenance” pattern after more regular work. We’ll decide together.

There’s no fixed answer. Some people do six sessions and feel they’ve got what they needed. Others work with me for a year or more. I review with you every six weeks or so, so you always know where we are and you’re never locked in.

Cost & payment

Sessions are £60 for 50 minutes. The 30‑minute introductory call is free. I also hold a small number of reduced‑rate spots — please feel free to ask if cost is a concern.

Bank transfer, payable in advance of each session. I’ll send you the details once we’ve agreed to work together.

I ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Inside that window the session is chargeable, because the slot is held for you. The same applies the other way — if I have to cancel late, I don’t charge you. Life events and emergencies are dealt with case by case.

My approach & qualifications

Yes. I’m a fully qualified Integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My registration number is 396193, which you can verify on the BACP register. I am also listed on Psychology Today.

It means I draw on a few different schools of therapeutic thought — person‑centred, psychodynamic, cognitive‑behavioural and more relational approaches — rather than applying one rigidly. We shape the work around what you need, not the other way around. There’s a fuller explanation on the How I Work page.

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people use therapy as a way to understand themselves better, to have a space to think clearly, or simply to feel less alone with what they’re carrying. If you’re unsure, the introductory call is a no‑commitment way to find out.

LGBTQ+ & ADHD specifics

No. I work with people who have a formal ADHD diagnosis, those who are waiting for assessment, and those who simply recognise themselves in what ADHD looks like. You don’t need a piece of paper to access support.

No. I’m a Trans/Non‑Binary counsellor and I work extensively with LGBTQ+ clients. You won’t have to explain what dysphoria feels like, define basic terms, or justify your identity in order to be heard. We start somewhere far more useful than that.

No — I’m a counsellor, not a psychiatrist, and counsellors don’t assess for or diagnose neurodevelopmental conditions. What I can do is support you through the process of considering, awaiting, or living with a diagnosis. If you’re seeking formal assessment, I can point you towards reputable routes.

Online sessions & privacy

I work exclusively online, by video or phone — whichever you prefer. Once we arrange a session time, I’ll send you a meeting link on the day. Sessions are available across the UK.

Yes. What you say in sessions stays between us, with two standard exceptions required by my professional body (BACP): I discuss anonymised case material with a clinical supervisor, and I am legally required to break confidentiality if there’s a serious risk to your life or someone else’s. I’ll talk you through this clearly when we start.

Understood — and important. My emails go out with neutral subject lines, and if you’d like me to use a particular email address or name when I reply, just tell me on the contact form. I won’t ever email or text anything that would out you to someone reading over your shoulder.
